NHK Kids is an app designed primarily for children between the ages of 3 to 7. Users can watch various children’s programs produced by NHK including those made for children in kindergarten, nursery school and elementary school.

One of the key features of this app is the video series that showcases play ideas. We focus on the element of play because it is said to be critical in developing non-cognitive skills* in children, especially in the early stages of childhood. Non-cognitive skills are receiving much attention from the educational sector in recent years.

This app can be used in settings such as kindergartens, nursery schools, and homes, and the "play" video series is designed in a way that the children would want to try the games themselves.

*Non-cognitive skills encompass various abilities such as perseverance, communication and controlling emotions.

Features:
-A timer is available to manage screen time. Children can keep their promises on how much time they spend on the app.
-Upon launching, the app checks the distance between the users eyes and the screen and alerts the user when he/she is too close.
-At the end of each video, the app displays examples of what adults can say to the children to encourage them to think deeper and enhance further engagement in the activity.
-Adults can check the list of videos viewed by the children in the administration portal.

Note:
Internet connection is required when using this app. A high-speed connection is recommended.
Internet connection fees and telephone service charges are to be borne by the user.
This app is available only in Japanese.
